Ces mots servent à exprimer la quantité par rapport à un besoin ou une limite. Ils permettent de dire s’il y a “trop” ou “assez” de quelque chose.
1. TOO (Trop)
On utilise Too devant un adjectif ou un adverbe.
- It is too hot. (C’est trop chaud)
- You drive too fast. (Tu conduis trop vite)
2. TOO MUCH / TOO MANY (Trop de)
On utilise ces formes devant un nom.
- Too much + Nom singulier (indénombrable).
- I have too much work.
- There is too much sugar in my coffee.
- Too many + Nom pluriel (dénombrable).
- There are too many people here.
- I have too many shoes.
3. ENOUGH (Assez)
Attention à sa place dans la phrase !
- Avant un nom :
- I have enough money. (J’ai assez d’argent)
- Après un adjectif :
- I am not tall enough. (Je ne suis pas assez grand)
- Is it warm enough for you?
