Prepositions: Next to, under, behind, etc.

Les prépositions de lieu servent à indiquer où se trouve une personne ou un objet. Elles sont indispensables pour décrire une scène ou donner sa position.

1. Les Bases : In, On, Under

• In (Dans) : À l’intérieur d’un espace fermé (boîte, pièce, ville).
  • The cat is in the box.
  • I am in the kitchen.
• On (Sur) : En contact avec une surface (table, mur, sol).
  • The book is on the table.
  • There is a picture on the wall.
• Under (Sous) : En dessous de quelque chose.
  • The shoes are under the bed.

2. Next to, In front of, Behind

• Next to (À côté de) : Très proche, sur le côté.
  • He is sitting next to me.
• In front of (Devant) : Face à quelque chose.
  • There is a garden in front of the house.
• Behind (Derrière) : À l’arrière de quelque chose.
  • The car is behind the garage.

3. Between, Near, Opposite

• Between (Entre) : Au milieu de deux éléments.
  • The shop is between the bank and the cafe.
• Near (Près de) : À une courte distance, sans forcément toucher.
  • I live near the park.
• Opposite (En face de) : Face à face, souvent séparé par une rue.
  • The cinema is opposite the station.

💡 Attention aux erreurs classiques !

• Erreur : The cat is between the table. -> Correction : The cat is next to the table or between the table and the chair. (Between nécessite deux éléments).
