Au niveau B1, on apprend que le discours rapporté ne se limite pas à “say” et “tell”. On utilise des reporting verbs plus précis qui indiquent l’intention du locuteur. Ces verbes suivent des structures spécifiques (Verb Patterns).
1. Verbe + INFINITIF (avec TO)
On les utilise pour rapporter des promesses, des refus, des offres ou des demandes.
- Promise : He promised to help me.
- Refuse : She refused to come.
- Offer : They offered to pay.
- Agree : He agreed to sign.
2. Verbe + GÉRONDIF (en -ING)
On les utilise pour rapporter des suggestions ou des aveux.
- Suggest : He suggested going to the park.
- Admit : She admitted stealing the money.
- Deny : They denied breaking the window.
3. Verbe + OBJET + INFINITIF
On les utilise pour rapporter des ordres, des conseils ou des rappels.
- Tell : He told me to wait.
- Ask : She asked him to call later.
- Advise : The doctor advised me to rest.
- Warn : They warned us not to go.
